The Dolly Parton Imagination Library BERLIN Benefit Concert Print E-mail
Monday, 05 July 2010 09:12
Please join us on September 18, 2010 for a benefit concert celebrating the local Imagination Library program benefiting the children of Temecula. The benefit concert will be held at Wiens Family Cellars with headliner Berlin taking the stage, who are best known for their international hit "Take My Breath Away" (from the movie Top Gun) in 1986. Richard Blade will be opening the event with his Flashback 80’s Show.
The Imagination Library is a program targeted at providing books monthly to children age 0-5. The program was started by entertainer Dolly Parton in her home State of Tennessee and has now been replicated in over 48 states, Canada and Great Britain. The Rotary Club of Temecula is the sponsor for the Imagination Library in Temecula.

Since March of 2009 more than 500 children receive books each month, delivered to their home at no cost to the family. Our goal is to register each and every child from birth to five years of age in Temecula. Each child receives a pre-selected, age-appropriate, book each month free of charge. Registered children have the potential of completing the program with their own library of up to 60 books. Children are registered in the program without regard to family income. The Imagination Library seeks to give every child the best prospects for academic and lifelong learning.

The price for one book a month for each child is $28.00 per year, which includes price of postage. There are many more eligible children in Temecula and the Rotary Club of Temecula wants to make sure that all children are allowed to receive this gift. We need your support to keep this program alive and on-going; we hope you will choice to participate in our upcoming benefit concert on September 18th. Your tax-deductible donation to the Rotary Club Foundation-Imagination Library would secure the continuation of this program.

Your support will allow thousands of books to be delivered right to children’s doorsteps and help prepare them for the next step in their lives –school. Quality education is the key to all success and improvement in any field of endeavor, and reading is the key to successful learning.

It is with great pleasure the Rotary Club of Temecula continues its partnership with the Imagination Library. We are delighted to participate in this wonderful early childhood reading program that assists in preparing children for the years ahead. We hope you will be able to join us at our benefit concert.

ROTARY CARES ABOUT TEMECULA CHILDREN
Let’s do what’s best for our children: teach them to read.

35% of children arrive at kindergarten not prepared to learn

Evidence suggests that children who are not fluent readers and writers by the end of third grade are less likely to catch up with their peers

Academic failure in late elementary school results in increased risk for substance abuse, delinquency, teen pregnancy, school dropout and violence.
