Temecula Rotarian to Represent Rotary District 5330 in 2010 Rose Parade Print E-mail
Tuesday, 29 December 2009 14:29

Club member Julie Ngo will represent Rotary International District 5330, with over 50 clubs in the Inland Empire including Perris, Menifee, Wildomar, Murrieta, and Temecula clubs, on the Rotary float in the 121st Rose Parade this weekend. The Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee’s 31st consecutive entry in the Tournament of Roses Parade truly celebrates the work of Rotarians worldwide. The theme of the 2010 parade is “A Cut Above the Rest” and the theme of our float is “Service Above the Rest”.  Putting together a float is an ambitious undertaking, not least because parade rules dictate that every inch must be covered with organic materials such as flowers, fruits and vegetables, or seeds. The Rotary parade float is funded each year by contributions from Rotarians in 3,000 clubs throughout the US and Canada. Rotary International has maintained a spot in the exclusive event, which only allows 60 participants, since 1979.

Ngo is a 2-year member of the Temecula Noon Rotary club which meets at noon on Wednesdays at the Wilson Creek Winery. She currently serves as the Youth Services Director, works with the youth throughout the district, manages the club’s RYLA, PRYDE, and INTERACT programs, and is gathering resources and volunteers to start a community-wide Rotaract Club.

Rotary Avenues of Service

Rotary’s commitment to Service Above Self is channeled through four Avenues of Service, which form the foundation of Rotary.

Club Service

Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the smooth functioning of Rotary clubs.

Vocational Service

Vocational Service involves club members serving others through their professions and aspiring to high ethical standards. Rotarians, as business leaders, share skills and expertise through their vocations, and they inspire others in the process.

Community Service

Community Service is the opportunity Rotary clubs have to implement club projects and activities that improve life in the local community.

International Service

International Service encompasses efforts to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the world and to promote world understanding and peace. It includes everything from contributing to PolioPlus to helping Rotary Youth Exchange students adjust to their host countries.
