2009 Vocational Service Awards

Each year Rotary Clubs around the world select non-Rotarian individuals that exemplify vocational service in the community. As one of Rotary’s avenues of service, Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve their community through their professions, and to practice high ethical standards that meet the Rotary Four-Way Test. As business leaders, Rotarians share skills and expertise through their vocations in service to the community and inspire others to do so in the process.
 
This year, two deserving recipients were selected to receive the Rotary Club of Temecula Vocational Service Award: Barbara Tooker and Dr. David Powers, both Temecula residents. Barbara Tooker was nominated by Dr. Carol Leighty, and "Dr. Dave" was nominated by Kim Kelliher.  
 

Vocational Service Award

Vocational Service, the second Avenue of Service, promotes high ethical standards in businesses and professions, recognizes the worthiness of all dignified occupations, and fosters the ideal of service in the pursuit of all vocations. The role of members includes conducting themselves and their businesses in accordance with Rotary’s principles.

Each year Temecula Rotary recognizes a member of our community who stands by these principles.

Rotary Avenues of Service

Rotary’s commitment to Service Above Self is channeled through five Avenues of Service, which form the foundation of Rotary.

New Generations Service

New Generations Service recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership development activities such as RYLA, Rotaract and Interact club service projects, and creating international understanding with Rotary Youth Exchange.

Vocational Service

Vocational Service involves club members serving others through their professions and aspiring to high ethical standards. Rotarians, as business leaders, share skills and expertise through their vocations, and they inspire others in the process.

Community Service

Community Service is the opportunity Rotary clubs have to implement club projects and activities that improve life in the local community.

International Service

International Service encompasses efforts to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the world and to promote world understanding and peace. It includes everything from contributing to PolioPlus to helping Rotary Youth Exchange students adjust to their host countries.

Club Service

Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the smooth functioning of Rotary clubs.
