  Personal Rotary Youth Development Experience

PRYDE will be held May 16-17, 2009 at Idyllwild Pines Camp in Idyllwild, CA.  Its activities are structured for 7th grade students, 12 years of age, who have demonstrated leadership skills. The cost of the program is $205 per participant.  Please join us by participating in the third year of this incredible project. District Governor Rob Sheppard is hoping for a commitment of at least three students from every club in District 5330. Don’t let your club miss out on being a part of this exciting event.  PRYDE provides leadership training through activities that stress leading yourself as a step towards leading others.  Each student will receive the “Jump Start Leadership Workbook”. Examples of the topics that will be covered in the program include Achieving your Goals, Managing Time, Tapping Into Your Talent, Taking Risks and Overcoming Obstacles. PRYDE also introduces students to Rotary, its purposes and activities.  There will be Rotarian speakers who will discuss an international project and the students will have the opportunity to participate in a service project for youth of the world.   Please complete and return the attached reservation form. Please include a club contact person. This person will be responsible for the registration materials and student selection. Also include on the form the names of any Rotarians who are interested in participating in the weekend as group leaders. They will need to be available from Saturday May 16, 2009 at 8:00am through Sunday May 17, 2009 at 4:00pm.

On January 17, 2009 there will be a kick off meeting where your club will receive a registration packet. Included in the package will be the registration forms and a student/parent information sheet. These will also be available at the District website.  Make copies of them along with the participant registration forms and immediately contact your middle school administrators and/or counselors to explain the program to them.  They should be able to recommend students to you and distribute copies of the information sheet and registration form to a few selected campus leaders whose participation would benefit the school and the students.  We highly recommend that you interview the students and select both participants and alternates.  The involvement of club members in the selection process is critical for the success of the camp experience.

Prior to attending PRYDE, it is recommended that each club invite their selected students, parents and a school representative to a club meeting.  This will enable them to learn more about the Personal Rotary Youth Development Experience as well as becoming more familiar with Rotary, its purposes and programs.  After PRYDE, we recommend that your club once again invite the students, parents, and school staff back to a club meeting to honor the students and allow them to share their weekend experience with your club members. This will provide your club the opportunity to witness the changes in the students as a result of the program, and to evidence that it was money well spent.  Questions about the program should be addressed to Kimberly Nunn at (951) 314-3285 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Rotary Avenues of Service

Rotary’s commitment to Service Above Self is channeled through four Avenues of Service, which form the foundation of Rotary.

Club Service

Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the smooth functioning of Rotary clubs.

Vocational Service

Vocational Service involves club members serving others through their professions and aspiring to high ethical standards. Rotarians, as business leaders, share skills and expertise through their vocations, and they inspire others in the process.

Community Service

Community Service is the opportunity Rotary clubs have to implement club projects and activities that improve life in the local community.

International Service

International Service encompasses efforts to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the world and to promote world understanding and peace. It includes everything from contributing to PolioPlus to helping Rotary Youth Exchange students adjust to their host countries.
