FOUR LOCAL CITIZENS RECEIVE VOCATIONAL SERVICE AWARDS FROM THE ROTARY CLUB OF TEMECULA FOR THEIR SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY.

Vocational service is one of Rotary’s “Avenues of Service” and encourages members to serve others through their professions and to practice high ethical standards. Each October Rotary Club members nominate distinguished members of the community that exemplify service above self through their careers upholding high ethical standards. In previous years the club has honored only one or two recipients but according to program chairman Kevin Vernon “it has become clear that even in the toughest of times there are many business people in the Temecula Valley who give of their time in extraordinary ways”. In addition to being recognized and thanked by Rotary each recipient received a check for $100.

Every year in October Rotary Clubs around the world honor community members who have used their professions to help others. Rotary is founded on the principal that as leaders in business, members should use their knowledge and experiences to make a better world. The motto of “service above self” is stressed in each of the Avenues of Service as well as adhering to high ethical standards. The Vocational 
Services Award recognizes non-Rotarians for their service and dedication to those principles. Committee chairman Kevin Vernon who headed up the nomination process said “this year’s recipient was selected from an impressive pool of nominees”.
Since 1995 Des Starr has worked as School Superintendent for Calvary Murrieta Christian School and Assistant Pastor of Calvary Murrieta. He oversees the preschool, elementary, junior and senior high schools in addition to the home school Individual Study Program. He sits on the Board of Directors for Advocates for Faith and Freedom; a non-profit law firm dedicated to protecting religious liberty in the courts, Colina De Luz Orphanage in Mexico, Calvary Murrieta Christian School and Calvary Chapel Murrieta. Vocational Service - Second of Four Avenues of Service
Vocational Service is second of the Four Avenues of Service that allows Rotarians to share their skills and expertise as business leaders. Vocational Service promotes high ethical standatrds in business and professions, recognizes the worthiness of all dignified occupations, and fosters the ideal of service in the pursuit of all vocations. The role of members includes conducting themselves and their businesses in accordance with Rotary's principles.
Temecula Rotary supports: 4-Way Speech Contest, Music Competition, Vocational Service Awards and Ethics Program.

Rotary Avenues of Service
Rotary’s commitment to Service Above Self is channeled through five Avenues of Service, which form the foundation of Rotary.
New Generations Service
New Generations Service recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership development activities such as RYLA, Rotaract and Interact club service projects, and creating international understanding with Rotary Youth Exchange.
Vocational Service
Vocational Service involves club members serving others through their professions and aspiring to high ethical standards. Rotarians, as business leaders, share skills and expertise through their vocations, and they inspire others in the process.
Community Service
Community Service is the opportunity Rotary clubs have to implement club projects and activities that improve life in the local community.
International Service
International Service encompasses efforts to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the world and to promote world understanding and peace. It includes everything from contributing to PolioPlus to helping Rotary Youth Exchange students adjust to their host countries.
Club Service
Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the smooth functioning of Rotary clubs.
